7 Ways You are Unknowingly Giving Yourself Diabetes

The general believe about diabetes is that they’re caused by the kinds of food we eat. Most people only focus on the kinds of food, leaving out other core causes of diabetes. Focusing on foods is alright but we also need to focus on other factors like how and when we eat, what we drink, exercise and more. Some of the ways you’re unkowingly giving yourself diabestes are shared by

Are you skipping breakfast?
There are many statistics about why you shouldn’t skip breakfast, but one study published by the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition said that missing even just one breakfast a week increases your risk of diabetes by 20%. It all has to do with maintaining healthy insulin levels. When you sleep, your insulin levels stay at a plateau, not extremely high or outrageously low. However, when you skip breakfast, those insulin levels plummet, only to spike again when you finally eat lunch. Such extreme changes in insulin could increase your risk of diabetes.
Giving Yourself Diabetes
Are you drinking soda?
Even people less familiar with the disease know that consuming too much sugar could be a factor in gaining diabetes. However, it’s not so much the sugar intake that makes sugary drinks and desserts such a problem, it’s how much weight you gain from them. When a person is overweight, their body naturally experiences chemical changes that affect their body’s ability to produce enough insulin. The more weight you gain, the more insulin your body has to make to control your glucose levels, but when it can’t keep up, your risk for diabetes is greatly multiplied
Are you not sleeping enough?
How much sleep you get may be just as important as what you eat. When your body doesn’t get enough sleep, you feel drowsy and with little energy. This reaction is similar to “insulin resistance, a precursor to diabetes,” when your body stops or is insufficiently converting glucose into energy. When you’re dragging after pulling an all-nighter, it may not be just the fatigue getting you down, but a possible sign of diabetes.
Are you depressed?
Depression has been listed as a side effect of diabetes, but recent studies have also found that depression could even be a risk factor of diabetes. In one study, subjects with depression had a 63% increased risk of diabetes. In fact, some physicians believe that depression and diabetes are synonymous diseases, both characterized by powerlessness and a lack of energy that they inflict upon their patients.
Are you watching too much TV?
How much time do you spend actively up and about, rather than just sitting down? It’s nice to relax after a long day, but too much of this sedentary time can be increasing your risk of diabetes. If you work seated at a computer all day or sit and watch TV for hours, every hour spent without some kind of active behavior increases your “risk of developing diabetes by 3.4%”. Even just getting up every half an hour can help keep your body active and decreases this risk.
Are you sweating?
If you really want to be active, though, but the fit life is not for you, start with smaller physical exercises and work your way up. One study showed that if you get in at least 20 minutes of exercise, three or four days of the week, you reduce your risk of diabetes, but it needs to be exercise that makes you sweat. As your body becomes more accustomed to these smaller exercises, you will sweat less. When you notice this happening, add something new into your workout routine.
But what else can you do?
Even by changing these daily habits, you still have other factors to worry about that you can’t control. Learn if there is a history of diabetes in your family, or if you are at greater risk because of your age.
If you are at risk, be sure to get tested and look for the signs. With MyHealth Assessment, for example, you can even take an assessment online to receive personalized statements about what you need to do to reduce your risk of diabetes, straight from doctors and other health professionals in the MyHealth Pass program.
You can also use online patient advocacy programs to find local health facilities and book appointments with physicians who specialize in diabetes and diseases of the endocrine system.
Although you can’t change where you came from, you can choose where to go from here, so choose to live a little healthier. You’ll reduce your risk of diabetes, but also just feel better, which is worth the effort.

Tax evasion allegations “I have nothing to hide” – Mourinho

fellaini-mourinho-vs-everton-dec2016-1

Manchester United boss, Jose Mourinho, has said he has nothing to hide over his tax affairs.

Last week, 12 European newspapers said it will publish what it described as “the largest leak in the history of sport” under the banner ‘Football Leaks’ over the next three weeks.

Part of that leak, is that Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo and Mourinho, allegedly avoided paying taxes, using structures set up by their agent, Jorge Mendes’ company, Gestifute.

Gestifute have issued a statement claiming the accusations are “unfounded” and insisted the duo are “fully compliant with their tax obligations”.

Mourinho has also denied any wrongdoing.

“I have lodged the documents in Italy, Spain and England,” Mourinho told reporters after Sunday’s 1-1 draw at Everton.

“I have nothing to hide. They prove that I have done nothing wrong.”

United Kingdom Adopts New Visa Application Process For Nigerians

The UK Embassy in Nigeria has adopted a new visa application process, British High Commission said on Friday in a statement.

The spokesperson of the commission, Joe Abuku, described the new process as a slight change in which “Visa staff now only need electronic versions of support documents.”

The new process, which takes effect from December 5 for customers applying for a UK visa in Lagos, Victoria Island and Ikeja, would bring applicants benefits from digital improvements to the UK visa application process.
“TLSContact (responsible for UK Visa Application Centres in Nigeria) will scan your supporting documents whilst you’re at the visa application centre, and then return your original documents to you,” the statement said.
“They will then send these (electronic) documents to UK VI, with your passport and application form, and visa officers will consider your application in the usual way.”
In order to avoid delays in the visa application centre, the Commission requested applicants to ensure they complied with requirement to provide all documents in A4 size, while any other documents smaller or larger than A4 should be photocopied onto A4 sized paper.
While advising all customers to remove any clips or pins from documents before submitting their application, the Commission warned that any torn, crumpled or heavily creased documents, which is difficult to photocopy, should be photocopied onto A4 sized paper before submitted, as they can’t be scanned in this condition.

3 NYSC Corps members die during the on-going 2016 Batch ‘B’ orientation course

coper.jpg

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has released a statement addressing the loss of three corp members in different camps across Nigeria, recently. The Management has promised to set up a committee to investigate the immediate and remote causes responsible for the loss.The statement reads;

The National Youth Service Corps regrets the loss of three Corps members, Elechi Chinyerum Nwenenda, Oladepo Ifedolapo and Asuquo Ukeme Monday, during the on-gong 2016 Batch ‘B’ (Stream I) Orientation Course in Bayelsa, Kano and Zamfara States respectively.
The death of the trio followed brief illnesses and after medical teams in the camps battled to save them in line with established procedures. Their demise, coming in their prime time when they were bracing up for further roles towards advancing their respective families, the nation and the rest of humanity, came as a rude shock to us in the NYSC family.
On behalf of the Management, staff and Corps members nationwide, I wish to express our sincere condolences to the families of the deceased Corps members. May the Almighty God grant them eternal rest and give their families and the rest of us the fortitude to bear the irreparable losses.
While we mourn the demise of these Corps members, who, out of patriotic zeal, answered the clarion call to serve their fatherland, we are constrained to correct the impression of negligence being created in some quarters. Management wishes to state that the welfare of Corps members has always remained topmost in the priorities of the Scheme, and we have continued to strive to give our best in that regard. The policy of the Scheme regarding healthcare during Orientation course provides for the setting up of camp clinic manned by qualified Doctors and other Corps Health Personnel.
The clinics, which are also provided with drugs and other basic equipment, are detailed to render round-the-clock medical services on camp with standing arrangement to refer and ensure immediate movement of patients to more sophisticated health facilities when necessary. We want to inform the public that medical teams in our camps have always been guided by the procedures of practice and in the most professional ways possible.
However, in view of these unfortunate incidents in Bayelsa, Kano, and Zamfara states, Management has set up a high-powered committee to investigate the immediate and remote causes of the loss the Corps members.
Management appreciates the concern of stakeholders, and wishes to assure the general public, especially serving and prospective Corps members as well as parents and guardians that the Scheme will continue to take measures aimed at ensuring the security and general well being of youths enlisted to serve the nation on the platform of the Scheme.

Meet ‘Pastor’ who owns MMM Nigeria (photo)

mmm

A self-styled Nigerian pastor, Ernest Chigozie Mbanefo, has been unmasked as the mastermind of the suspected Ponzi scheme known as MMM Nigeria.

Mbanefo’s domain, which is one of the multiple MMM sites in Nigeria, is ranked by Alexa.com as the 78th most visited Nigerian website.

MMM Global, on the other hand, is more popular in Nigeria than Facebook, Nairaland and Bet9ja. The site, whichimage

ranks fifth on Alexa, is behind Google.com, Google.com.ng, Youtube.com, Yahoo.com.

According to an online report quoted by NAN, Mbanefo is based in South Africa.

Nigerian Communications Week said Mbanefo registered the site, MMM-Nigeria.net domain, on June 7, 2016 at about 5pm Nigerian time.

NCW quoting Pageone report written back in September said Mbanefo made a single-year domain payment. The domain will expire on June 7, 2017.

It was also revealed that MMM Nigeria is not part of MMM Global – a Russian company that was responsible for one of the world’s largest Ponzi schemes in the 1990s.

MMM Global was founded by Russian politician Sergei Mavrodi, his brother Vyacheslav Mavrodi and Olga Melnikova.

The name of the company was taken from the first letters of the three founders’ surnames (MMM

But like MMM Global, the Nigerian scheme is also a pyramid marketing scheme where an investor gets a 30 per cent return on investment.

Around the world, MMM is feared.

In January 2016, the Chinese government banned MMM on the grounds that it is a pyramid scheme (Ponzi scheme), and it is not registered in the country (and as a fraudulent scheme cannot be registered).

MMM recently crashed in Zimbabwe: Thousands of ‘Mavrodians’ in Zimbabwe were left in tears when the scheme crashed, losing tens of thousands of their lifetime savings.

PageOne gave Mbanefo’s address as 1 Royal Street, Lindberg Park, Johannesburg, South Africa.

According to Page One, Ernest was awarded a certificate of completion of an online course titled ‘MMM Guiders School’ on July 15. The certificate was supposedly signed by Sergei Mavrodi himself. He has since given himself the nickname the ‘Super Guider of MMM’.

To share news and information about MMM, Ernest also operates a subdomain ‘news.mmm-nigeria.net. The site praises him and projects him as the leader of the Ponzi Scheme in Nigeria.

“He is described thus: MMM Nigeria Super Guider; Pastor Ernest Mbanefo, has been selflessly helping thousands of MMM Nigeria participants whether or not they fall under his downline structure.

“The brain behind the MMM Nigeria revolution operation has been working selflessly and tirelessly towards the education, information and proper guidance for the MMM Nigeria Community.”
